Hi,

***LOG BY0=> ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress

Check if your database is in NOMOUNT,MOUNT or in progress ot starting/stopping. Please refer OSS Note 175636 - cannot startup Oracle (with no/meaningless error(s))

For your knowledge also refer OSS Note 655240 - Composite SAP note: ORA-01033.

If you are not able to solve your problem then please post the aler_<SID>.log file .

Tnx,

Hi,

I tried the following

C:/> SQLPLUS / NOLOG

SQL> CONNECT AS SYSDBA

SQL > STARTUP NOMOUNT

SQL > ALTER DATABASE MOUNT

SQL > ALTER DATABASE OPEN

Then I started SAP application server. The problem still continues. The dispatcher stops and the work process are in ended state.

I even tried to restart the oracle database service. The problem still continues

Kindly help me to solve the problem.

Two things I see in the logfiles:

> M relno 6200

> C Got ORACLE_HOME=D:\oracle\ora81 from environment

1. Your kernel is out of support (620 was desupported several years ago)

2. Oracle 8i is also out of support for a LONG time (a few years).

Can you tell my why you use such ancient software installation media? Or is this an "I-bought-on-ebay"-software?

hello,

please check following:

a) R3trans -d

b) check your services file in

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

You should see a whole list of SAP services. Make sure it also has the following entry :

sapmsSID 36nn/tcp

Former Member

Hi ,

I have checked the services file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers.

There is a file sapmsERP 3600/tcp.

Can you tell me how to check R3trans -d .

Kindly let me know to solve the problem.

Good.

> Can you tell me how to check R3trans -d .

- login as <sid>adm

- execute "R3trans -d"

- check the resulting "trans.log" file

Your database is not coming up. Check alert<sid>.log in the saptrace\background directory.

Still - you software is ancient and no more supported.

Your database is not started.

> Starting up ORACLE RDBMS Version: 8.1.7.0.0.

That version is also not supported, you need at least patchlevel 8.1.7.4 if you still insist of using such an old version. So despite what you try do with your current software level - it wont work - technically.

I understand that you are "just" ABAPer, I just have to tell you, that installing and maintaining an Oracle database (which is obsolete by its version) is very complex and you may be out of luck if you have no clue where to get patches and how to install them. You also don't follow the advise to use a supported kernel, your complete installation media is obsolete.

If you want to use R/3 4.7 then why not download recent installation media from the service marketplace, maybe even with a database that is easier to maintain (MaxDB, SQL-Server). It will save you (and eventually us here) a lot of time and frustration.

Hi,

I got R/3 installed in my PC for practice two years ago. It was working fine since then. Iam unable to understand that the "Version is not supported". So you mean to say that I need to reinstall the whole thing again.

> I got R/3 installed in my PC for practice two years ago. It was working fine since then. Iam unable to understand that the "Version is not supported". So you mean to say that I need to reinstall the whole thing again.

What I mean is:

Note 1174136 - Oracle: End of Support Dates

[...]
Oracle 8.1.7 End 2003
[...]

and

Note 803429 - Desupport 6.20 kernel

[...]
SAP terminates maintenance for the 6.20 kernel on 30 June 2005.
[...]

Why not download the current (and supported) version here from SDN?

And:

You are aware that a private installation is a violation of the license terms? There is no license for a "home installation", no license for "private use" (read the license.pdf on the installation master CD). You can be lucky if you're not sued by SAP legal.

Note: I'm not trying to offend, I just say that you are using obsolete software - illegally - so providing help here could bring the people (including me) in a troublesome situation too.
