hi Johannes,

let us talk about the basics bit

in addition to the above context u can walk to this also .....

what is an ERP

enterpraise resource planning -- ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning. ERP is a way to integrate the data and processes of an organization into one single system. Usually ERP systems will have many components including hardware and software, in order to achieve integration, most ERP systems use a unified database to store data for various functions found throughout the organization

if take an example of erp it consits of all the areas of the a company it consists of

An ideal ERP system is when a single database is utilized and contains all data for various software modules. These software modules can include:

Manufacturing: Some of the functions include; engineering, capacity, workflow management, quality control, bills of material, manufacturing process, etc.

Financials: Accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, general ledger and cash management, etc.

Human Resources: Benefits, training, payroll, time and attendance, etc

Supply Chain Management: Inventory, supply chain planning, supplier scheduling, claim processing, order entry, purchasing, etc.

Projects: Costing, billing, activity management, time and expense, etc.

Customer Relationship Management: sales and marketing, service, commissions, customer contact, calls center support, etc.

Data Warehouse: Usually this is a module that can be accessed by an organizations customers, suppliers and employees

in sap ecc 6.0 all the topics wil be there -- i wll call it as module like finance module, hr module, srm(supply chian management) module etc...

before portal all the things will done base ecc only,

after coming the Enterpraise portal

An enterprise portal, also known as an enterprise information portal (EIP) or corporate portal, is a framework for integrating information, people and processes across organizational boundaries. It provides a secure unified access point,[1] often in the form of a web-based user interface, and is designed to aggregate and personalize information through application-specific portlets. One hallmark of enterprise portals is the de-centralized content contribution and content management, which keeps the information always updated

we can able to access the core ecc data to the portal,

usually ecc will be accessed by the abap only,

when we want to access the hr module rather iw ll call its employee self services (ESS) coz it defines the employess of a particluar enterpraise( a company)

sap given some set of business packages ( like set of applicactions) defined some of them are in webdnypro java and some of them are webdynpro for abap.

u can refer the following link for esss/mss

Hi,

There is nothing called +ESS Web Dynpro.

ESS in generall is business package that is predefined content developed by SAP to support Employee Self Service.

All the BAPI''s, UI Screens etc are developed by SAP and delivered to the customer which facilitates the instant startup of Employee Self Service.

SAP used a platform or Framework called Webdynpro Java which is used for developing UI for this ESS.

Webdynpro ABAP is also another framework which is used to develop UI but in ABAP.

Ofcourse now i guess SAP is trying to move ESS from webdynpro java to webdynpro ABAP.

Hi,

ESS usually means : Business Package for Employee Self-Services. This business package contains standard Portal applications for employees. These applications are provided by SAP and are Web Dynpro Java or ABAP applications.

You can find the documentation for the latest BP for ESS here : [Business Package for Employee Self-Service 1.41|http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/en/f6/263359f8c14ef98384ae7a2becd156/frameset.htm].
