ERR_FILEOPEN (ERR_RTE) when trying to install a database (7.6.4.16)

Hi

I have a system that had two SAP instances and it was decided to replace one of the instances.

The steps I did was to delete the OLD instance, as this has two MaxDb database and one is still being used:

dbmcli for OLD> db_offline

dbmcli for OLD> db_drop

#> sdbuninst -package "Database Kernel" -program_dir "e:/sapdb/OLD/db"

OK

I then installed a new instance using a homogeneous copy (backup/restore) for the new instance, NEW.

When the installation process stops to restore the database from a backup I noticed that a number of the parameters are not in place and appear in the GUI as new values.

I the wrk directory, I found the file dbmsrv_hostname.prt which contained the following errors:

I have tried installing a different SID but I get the same result.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Doug,

your post is plain unreadable.

Anyhow, it looks like that the MaxDB software installation on your system is broken.

Please run sdbverify to check this.

Also post the output of

dbmcli inst_enum

dbmcli db_enum

Please note that the instance EPT is still active.

EDB was installed but had the error I mentioned. I have dropped the EDB database with db_drop so that I could try and install another instance (EHP). The main reason I installed EHP was that all my previous attempts to install reused the same .M???? service. EHP installed but has the same issue.

Hi Doug,

the .M7640 instance is the service instance which is shared amongst all instances that use the same version of MaxDB.

Somehow this service instance seems to be damaged.

Without further investigating into this (to do that you would have to open a support message and provide remote access), I'd try to simply install the current patch to the installation you want to re-create a database into.

By that a new service instance will be created.

Afterwards you just should be able to run the db_create again.

Am I still able to import a 7.6.4 db into a 7.6.6 database (I'm building a sandbox instance for enhancement pack testing)?

Sure.

It's just a patch.

It's not a new major release.

It's the same MaxDB 7.6 - just with (hopefully) less bugs and improved feature implementations.
