BRtools and DB02 information:

Former Member

Hello,

I have started a new position and I will be monitoring and extending tablespaces as part of my job.

We have ECC 5.0, BI 7.0 on Oracle 10.2 with Solaris OS.

They use brtools and DB02 for monitoring and extending tablespaces. Can anyone reccomend any specific documents or links that would be helpful for me to read up on. I don't have much exposure to these tools and would like to have documents or steps to guide me.

Thank you,

Steve

Steve,

A good starting point is the Oracle page on SDN: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/ora. Near the bottom of the page there is a link to the SAP Database Guide:Oracle, which takes you to the online help pages. The links to the PDF documents on BRSPACE (space management, including tablespace and datafile management) and BRCONNECT (update DB statistics + various other maintenance functions) are also very useful.

If you are unfamiliar with the Oracle DBMS itself, then you should also have a look at the standard documentation for Oracle 10, which is freely available on the Oracle website (http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/database10gR2.html). As a starting point I specifically recommend the "2 Day DBA" and "Concepts" guides.

Finally, use also the SAP online help for information on the various DBA transactions like DB02 (now integrated into the DBA Cockpit). Link: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/2a/cd71f5200f784690bf0b9624d045a2/frameset.htm

And of course, there is always this forum to help you out.

Good luck,

Mark

Hi Steve

If your database is oracle then you can use brtools for extending tablespace, taking backup, changing oracle database parameters, collecting oracle statistics, changing database passwords and lot more. BRTOOLS is the front end to Database administration provided by SAP.

You just need to type "BRTOOLS" from operating system command prompt/shell. You will get lot of options.

You can definitely check the link below for this.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/46/ce0440a832e369e10000000a155106/content.htm

http://sap.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/sap-basis/how-to-use-brtools-in-sap-ecc-50-9092...

BUt I would suggest you to have a look at SAP's training material TADM51. You can get lot of information about BRTOOLS there.

http://www.esnips.com/doc/f39a13a5-603d-4fe6-873d-2aa9c4cf4f0c/TADM51_EN_Col52_FV_Inst_A4

If you search in google with "TADM51" you can get lot of reference. I am not sure whether that wil be a vialation of copy rightr or not. Please be careful about that.

regarding DB02 its a TCODE in SAP from which you can see tablespace size, database size, database growth, and lot more from SAP Level...

Just type db02 in SAP, you can explore it gradually.

Hope this will help.
