I am not sure if you have read it properly or not. If you look at it agaiin, under tracks, it is mentioned that XI track is used for all XI related version maintenance, and DTR track is used for Java related developments. If in your landscape you have Java developments like Mapping, adapter modules, adapters, then only you should use DTR track.
