Hi there,
we´ve installed a new EP 6.0 on a Win2003 host.
What is the best way to backup the content and the users?
Do I have to backup my database (complete or specific tables) or do i have to backup parts of the filesystem?
with kind regards
Hi,
Backup and Restore is very essential and due attention should be given right from the start.

Hope that helps.

Hi ,
I have tested various methods but finally banked on the following procedure for EP 6.0 SP9 +
Backup..
Only USR and Oracle folders
Restoration...
Install new EP 6.0 SP 9 and just replace the USR & ORACLE folders from the backup...
This will bring even the previous system is SP 10,11,12,...

Hello again,
as I have to use the ntbackup on a windows host, I think I need to stop the Services and the database, I tried to stop them via batch-file, like:
net stop SAPJ2E_00
net stop SAPJ2E_01
net stop SAPDBWWW
net stop "SAP DBTech-J2E"
net stop XServer
net stop SAPOsCol
exit
These cmd commands are working fine, but only for about 1 Minute, then the services are starting up again, why??
Are there separate cmd commands for the sap services to stop?
Why does the services start up without a net start command (there is nothing comparable in my windows world:))?

Thomas,
Backup the following:
-OS (W3K)
-File system
-Database (which will include PCD and UME, etc.) thus backing up users/content
-Backup usr/sap*
If you have a third-party software/backup product/solution, try to leverage this rather than using SQL/NT Backup/Restore. For development/QA we use standard backup procedures. It is all dependent on your company policies with backup/archiving.

James
