Generate UPS MaxiCode on SAP label

Former Member

Hi All,

I have to generate a 'MaxiCode(3D)' barcode on a shipping label for UPS. We are using Smartforms with Intermec/Zebra printers to achieve this.

I am tyring to get clarity on printing labels created using Smartforms as we are confused how they work. Our perception currently is that, we can design labels using Smartforms and can print them directly on the Zebra printer like any other document. By saying this I assume, we need not do any coding in the printer language like ZPL II etc.

Is this statement true?

If this is true or partially true, I would greatly appreciate if anyone can provide with some quidance in creating a 3D(MaxiCode) Barcode using Smartforms. I checked in se73 and did not find any system barcode that would support the MaxiCode.

Please let me know if I missed something. There is little documentation available on this and I am working on this for the first time.

Thanks all for your time and help.

Regards,

Vamsee

Hello,

If you use Smartforms use the new barcode technology with any printer,

as within the SAP system itself the barcodes are created.

For the Zebra printers only, there is a possibility to print barocde

labels without the third party BAR-ONE software(sapscript method).

This method is only possible if you use a Smartform instead of a

Sapscript

form for printing to Zebra ZPL II labelprinters. The procedure is

described as your aware in the following SAP Notes: 750002 and 750772.

To clarify, the above will not be possible if your device only supports

EPL.

As an option perhaps you can consider the following:

One possibility (if your printer doesn't have a barcode DIMM)

is that you print via a Windows system, SAPLPD, device type SAPWIN and

a barcode.dll. If you print via SAPWIN, the creation of the print data

is done in Windows. So Windows may create a graphic, which

contains the bars of the barcode, and send this graphic to the printer.

The job to create the barcode graphic is done by the barcode.dll.

So it is only needed, if you want to print this way please see the

following Note for more information: 14561.

Remember, Barcode printing with SAPWIN device types requires barcode.dll

or barcode font as above.

David
