Hi,
We have two scenarios
1. We are running our production ERP 6.0 on windows server 2003 Enterprise edition as high availability system with SQL Server 2005 database and two application servers. Is it possible to migrate the Operating System of one application service to Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition and remaining setup still working on windows server 2003 Enterprise edition. Our plan is to migrate the os without a down time.
2. Our development and quality systems (ERP6+CRM2007) are installed as distributed system as Database Instance running in one common SQL Server(SQL Server 2008 and windows server 2003 Enterprise edition) . As per my understanding CRM 2007 is currently not support for Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition. In such scenarios can we migrate our application servers of ERP 6.0 to Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition by keeping common database server still running on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

The question to ask is: Does you hardware vendor support upgrades from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008? Windows 2008 uses different drivers which must all be upgraded during the OS upgrade.
Are you on 64bit already?

yes.

> Do we need to reinstall SAP application after the os upgrade to Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition?
If you upgrade the OS there's no need to re-install, that's the purpose of doing an upgrade rather than a new installation. You have to make sure you use a supported kernel patchlevel.
> Is there any SAP Documentation available regarding os upgrade to Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition for SAP servers?
No - this is a pure OS related thing - consult Windows documentation and also your hardware vendor. The SAP system (the kernel) is agnostic about the underlying OS.
I would though not upgrade the OS but do a new installation and a system copy.

Hi,
We have done our OS migration in one of our test server. Migration is completed and all SAP services are running.
From the SAP console we are unable to start SAP, Message server and Disp+works is not starting. We are using X64 nonunicode kernel 201. Please find the developer trace

It seems the upgrade overwrote your services file.
Check that (check if it contains all sapdpXX, sapgwXX entries) and especially look for
sapmsBW2 3600/tcp
Also make sure, if it's the last line, you add an empty line after it.

Hi,
Application server can be run on different environment from DB CI. Many servers are configured on unix/mainframe but application server in windows. So this will not be an issue.
