Distance and duration maintainance in TPVS
1) We are maintaining the hypothetical distance of 1000 kms in the intra-zone Transportation Lanes of customers. But the distance maintained for inter-zone Lanes is zero. What could be the logic behind such maintainance?
Note that maximum distances involved for transportation from a source plant to any of its destination customers is 250 kms.
2) Moreover, the actual distances and durations are also maintained betwen the source plants and their respective destination customers with respect to each Means of Transport, in the relevant standard table (TRDIDUPS table).
What is the use of such maintainance? Is this only for stages determination (delivery sequencing) or whether this is also used for distance cost calculation?
3) Whenever such distances are not maintained in the TRDIDUPS table, TPVS is taking around 15000 kms as the distance. Is this getting picked up in default? If yes, where is this default distance maintained?

In your case the hypothetical distance of 1000 Kms maintained is to prevent the reverse sequencing (as indicated in one of the presentations). I do not see any need for this. The distance maintained in TRDIDUPS table will always overwrite this. The distance in TRDIDUPS is maintained to follow a specific sequence to visit series of customer. If not maintained, then the system will assume its own sequence which may not be business requirement. However if the distance is not maintained in TRDIDUPS table, then the system will consider the distance maintained in transportation lanes (Source Zone intra-lane, Zone to Zone lane distance and Intra-lane distance in destination zone. That is why you may be getting the abnormal distance of 15,000 KM (if 5 customers in destination zone, then the system will consider distance between each customer to be 1000 KM).
You may try adjusting the intra-zone distance in one of the destination zone (ensuring the TRDIDUPS entries are maintained) to see whether the system produces the desired sequence.
