Dear, Gurus
I try upgrade patch kernel on SOLMAN from patch 111 to 159, I already download patch from http://service.sap.com/sp-stacks
And follow by note 19466 and some comment on forum.
My System:
SAP Solution Manage 4.0 SP13
Patch Level 111
Windows 2003 Server En , Oracle 10g
Step:
1. Stop SAP and extrace SAPEXE_159-20000972.SAR, SAPEXEDB_159-20000974.SAR into TEMP directory
2. Rename /usr/sap/SM7/SYS/exe/uc/NTI386 to /usr/sap/SM7/SYS/exe_old/uc/NTI386
3. Make new directory exe/uc/NTI386 under subtree /usr/sap/SM7/SYS/
4. Copy all in TEMP directory that I extrace to /usr/sap/SM7/SYS/exe/uc/NTI386
5. Start sap
!!Error database could no be start, that I do right?
I saw three EXE diredctory,
D:\usr\sap\SM7\SYS\exe
D:\usr\sap\SM7\DVEBMGS00\exe
D:\usr\sap\SM7\SCS01\exe
Some comment on forum advise extrace new patch to \usr\sap\SM7\SCS01\exe too.
that right?
Thank for all comment.

First restore your old kernel.
Start sap, just to check.....stop it again.
Next create a copy of your old kernel /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run
After this copy all your extracted files in your current kernel directory.
Start SAP
That should do the trick.
A new kernel doesn't always have all files contained in the old one.....

Witoon,
2. Rename /usr/sap/SM7/SYS/exe/uc/NTI386 to /usr/sap/SM7/SYS/exe_old/uc/NTI386
3. Make new directory exe/uc/NTI386 under subtree /usr/sap/SM7/SYS/
4. Copy all in TEMP directory that I extrace to /usr/sap/SM7/SYS/exe/uc/NTI386
I would not rename existing directory. I would take a copy/backup of existing kernel directory and paste newer files on to current directlroty.
I saw three EXE diredctory,
D:\usr\sap\SM7\SYS\exe
D:\usr\sap\SM7\DVEBMGS00\exe
D:\usr\sap\SM7\SCS01\exe
Some comment on forum advise extrace new patch to \usr\sap\SM7\SCS01\exe too.
that right?
There is program sapcpe (sapcpe itself is a kernel program) distributes the kernel when you start after update. So do no update all the directories.
Check database connectity by r3trans -d at command prompt, check database is working by going to SQLplus prompt.
Lastly, you can use JSPM which does start/stop, uncar autmoatically for you. Just remember to take backup of kernel first.
Hope this helps.
