We have Solman 7 EHP1 stack 19 running on windows 64bit and SQL 2005. I'm using the dba cockpit configuration wizard to connect to a portal system and I'm haveing problems finding a user that works. If I use the SAP adm account user I get the following errors-
SQL error 1-: Login failed for user 'nppadm'.
Database connection %_NPP_HBSSAP12 could not be established
Is this the wrong user or do I need to do something else?
The portal is also running SQL 2005.
Followed steps in note 1388700 for SQL remote monitoring

Hi,
As it is SQL Server, try look at SAP Note [1027512|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1027512] , in special the attached sqldba_cockpit.pdf document.
Hope this helps

Hello,
About user SAP<SID>,you can refer to note 562863.
In note 562863,it says :
The SAPR3 user was always used for older R/3 releases.
However, since several R/3 systems may be present in the same
database within MCOD with current releases, you can replace the
SAPR3 user with a system-specific SAP<sid> user here. You can
define this during the installation.
If user SAP<sid> does not exsit, would you like to try to use user SAPSR3 ?
For reference about user SAP<sid>,you can also refer to note 1028624.
Best regards

Hi,
Login failed for user is an error with authentication.
Please check the Authenticatin mode for SQL. also,Sometimes, if you fail to save your settings, the Instance/pwd will not be picked up and may lead to this error.
Thanks,
Jagan
