RFC Connection Type 3 (R/3 Conn) vs Type L (Reference Entry)

Hi There,

I'm in the process of gathering / collecting information on the following lines and its quite disappointing to see that there no clear info or so little. Wonder if some of you can help me peice this information

a) the need & use of type L connection (the information provided in the help documentation 'help.sap.com' is not clear and unhelpful)

b) Advantages & disadvantages of using type 3 vs type L connection

On workflow related issue the OSS 888279 advocates the use of R/3 connection instead of logical connections.

The L (logical) connection is just a reference to another connection. It can reference connection with type 3, for example. Logical connection does not contain any connection data (host/port, etc.) to a remote system. The target connection of Logical connection contains the connection data as well as authentication data (user/password, etc.).

However, in Logical connection you can rewrite the original authentication data of the target connection with custom values. Below the attributes which can be rewritten in Logical connection:

- logon user/password

- logon client/language

- connection description
