Administration Resources Required for SAP on iSeries

Hi All,

We're in the position of having to defend the iSeries again. One of the best stories that we can tell is how SAP on iSeries can be managed with so few resources. We've had a single individual performing both Basis and System Admin functions for the past 5 years. He's a bit overworked, but gets the job done. Corporate feels this may just be an anomaly and that iSeries doesn't really require fewer resources than database x. I'd like to hear how many people support your systems. It would be helpful to have the number of sys admins and/or Basis, what components you run (e.g., R/3, CRM, BW, XI, etc.), what releases you run, the number of users, and the database size. We support R/3 4.6C (most modules), CRM 4.0 (interaction center only), and BW 3.1 with one system admin/Basis. We have 1,600 users and an 800 GB R/3 database.

TIA,

Stan

Hi Stan,

We have about 1000 users and 1.4 Tb R/3 4.6C database. Also running BW 3.5, SRM 4.0 (self-service procurement only), Portal 6.0, and Sol Mgr 3.1 (soon to be 4.0). We've been running with 2 Basis for the past 2.5 years, and just hired a 3rd last month due to workload. BW, SRM, and Portal upgrades are actually in process right now and R/3 upgrade planned for 4.6C to ECC 5 or 6. We also do the iSeries hardware/software procurement and admin, plus manage some legacy RPG applications.

Busy, but happy to be on iSeries...
