Dear Experts,
Could someone explain me the problems/risks on changing the unit of measure for SNP Planning area in a productive environment? Is there any procedure that need to be done?
Thanks in advance,
Raü
Hi,
Thanks for your clear answer. But I still have one more question, do we really need to create a new planning area? Is it not possible to reuse the same one?
Thanks in advance,
Raü

Hi,
Uses 'Unit of Measure' as u2018CS/KG...u2019 instead of u2018 PC u2018 is not only the reason. There are many reason when new planning area required like,
Use storage bucket profile of days_weeks_months rather than standard, This allows reporting to BW in months or additional time series key figures used for store persistent data required for BW reporting and aggregate alert calculation.
So, if you have only this kind of requirement (changed 'unit of measure') then you can go ahed without defining new planning area. But to meet special customer requirements (in future) you may feel the need of more than one PA. And the same time if you are able to meet those requirement with one planning area (with user specific (seperate) planning books), then its good.
Thanks,
Satyajit

Obviously you will need a UOM conversion for every product for this new UOM.

Hi Raul,
When You have requirment of changing 'Unit of measure', then you need to change it. Because its a business requirment. There is no such kind of risk. Sometimes user may prefer to see data with 'unit of measure' 'KG' instead of 'PC'. In that case you can set user specific setting in the planning book itself, then the user will see the data as he/she wants, but still the data would be saved with its 'base unit of measure' (as it is there in Planning Area).
So, if you want to save the data as per your changed unit of measure, then you need to change the base unit of measure in the planning area. There are no such kind of risks. You are open to have more than one planning area.
My current project, we use different (there are five PA) PA, and some of those are with different base unit of measure. You can changethe base unit of measure after creating (copying from other PA) the PA.
Hope this helps....
Thanks,
Satyajit
