DB backup is hung

What are the different ways to know if DB backup & archive log backup process have hung. How can we know the average run time of db backup & archive log backup ?

What are the advisable checks to be performed / steps to be taken if we observe the backup is slow (determined by average) or has hung.

Hi Jayesh,

These are depends upon which hardware you are using for backup and which backup tools you are using.

And depends upon your database size.

Anyways you can check the same with last successfull backup, how much time it is taking for full backup.

And you can check the estimated end time when you are scheduling the same at OS level.

Hello Jayesh,

You can run a query to check if the backup/archive backup will run sucessfully or not.

You can goto the /Oracle/SID/sapbackup folder and check the last succssfull backup log.

The log file will have the command which triggered the backup.

You can run this command with the -q option to check if the backup is sucessfull or not.

Thanks,

Which type of backup u r taking is it online, offline. to check the total time open the last log file or current log file. by this u will get the estimated time.

if u r comfortabel with brtools then u will get the end time as well as u start the Backup.

Thanks

In DB12 I can see that last log entry in detailed log is 5 hrs ago. but the process is running at ps (unix level)... Now how should I decide if the backup process would have hung ?

What are the additional steps to be taken?
