Hello Forum,
I have the following problem. I installed the N4S testdrive (MAXDB 64 Bit) on a centos 5.2 vmware ( identical RHEL 5.2). Installation went well, i can start via "startsap n4shost", but if i try to connect to c Client to the SAP-System i only get the progress-bar for the client stuck about at half (9 squares filled) and saying "waiting for response ..."
I used System Number 00, SID N4S, Server ist IP-Address of the vmware.
Where can i look to find the mistake? Btw firewall and SELinux are both not active.
regards,
Tom
Dear Thomas,
you should connect to system number 01, because on 00 runs the SCS, the central instance runs on 01 !
Thanks,
Hannes

After digging through the logfiles i found out that the installer had somehow messed up /etc/hosts (localhost was missing). After fixing that everything worked.

Just to add: If i stop the sap-service (stopsap n4shost), then the login is cancelled with an error.

Tom

Hello Hannes,
that seems to show a further problem: which process should run on port 3201, because netstat -a -p shows there are no listeners for this port:

Instance on host tegutbw.dacosnet.local started
After looking throug the logs i found out that, by some magic interference between the installation and the network-config tool of centos, the localhost entry in /etc/hosts had gone missing. After reintroducing it and reconfiguring eht0:1 the system started and i could log in.
As an improvement to the documentaion i propose to include the virtual memory requirement. There is one but it isn't mentioned.
regards
Tom
