After Configuration of the system you can run CATTS to see how a transaction works.

in a simple language if you want to do mass uploading or any other transaction like that.
it is similar to macro in excel.
it records the transaction code u will come across and will not have to go on that transaction all the time to enter the data manually.

We have been using CATT to automate our test scripts and the transactions of FICO are recorded in CATT for that.

Typically you use CATT for a few reasons 1) Testing 2) Data conversions. You can load master data nicely using catt. 3) Mass changes to master data in production. Sure saves time. 4) Some transaction processing. For transactions it is better to create abap programs. But it can be used in the short term.
