What patch level for the SAP GUI have you installed?
Patch 13 is the latest patch level.
I know on some patch level releases, the release information points at resolving black screens/icons, such as:
Note 1061402 - SAPGUI 7.10: Exceptions or black session

Hello, I had the same problem. I uninstalled SAP GUI. Installed Java 2 (1.4.2_11) and then re-installed SAP GUI 7.10 (patch 14).
The problem is solved and I am able to use new signature design. Looking at my screen all my colleagues have also went for this new design. We want to use NWBC as well, but it is not working for our ECC 6 EHP3 server although we tried many configurations mentioned in help.sap.com- http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/44/a22c96a40874a2e10000000a11466f/frameset.htm
Still looking for stepwise interactive (screenshot) solution for NWBC.
Now was it the act of un-installing and re-installing that did this or was it the change in Java version? AFAIK, there's no requirement for JAVA to be on your desktop for a successful SAPGUI install?!?!
We're experiencing this on XP with 7.10 patch 15 (latest) on random desktops. It's probably not random, we just haven't found the common link yet - so I'm off to check Java versions

I don t have the exact windows vista update patch name but I am more than sure that this solves the problem.
See I have a lot of PCs in my company having Vista. When I turn the signature theme on it too turns black .But as soon as i update vista it goes away.
Mind me I always installed SAP GUI in a new machine.(Which nearly had no vista patch already installed).
Updating them always solves this problem.(Only with new installation of Vista though).

hello
the problem with black icons and black bars are very often a problem with
+ too old SAP kernel
+ LOW SPEED CONNECTION
+ Accessibility Mode of Sapgui theme
+ too old graphic card driver
Please check this all!
Best regards, Sven
