Gross Weight versus Net Weight issue in TP/VS

Former Member

In certain material masters, we are maintaining Base Unit of Measure as kg where it is equivalent to net weight. In those cases, net weight and gross weight are maintained in R/3 system as well as in APO. But while doing optimisation, TP/VS is taking the value equivalent to net weight, whereas our expectation is to take the gross weight for truck planning.

For one division, both net weight and gross weight are same where there is no issue. But in some other divisions, net and gross weights are different where we are facing this issue.

System is taking the net weight from SI Unit of Conversion from T006 standard table; wherever kg is Base Unit of Measure, it takes 1kg as net weight irrespective of whether gross weight is higher or same as net weight. TPVS should take the groiss weight as maintained in material master Basic Data while doing optimisation.

Similarly, in products where Base Unit of Measure is Litre, the issue is with Volume, no isue with weight. Here, the system is picking up the volume from SI Unit of Conversion as 1 M3 whereas TPVS should take the actual volume maintained by us in material master Basic Data.

Pls suggest solution.

Hello Sunil,

TP/VS always uses the base unit of measure for planning and then converts it into the units maintained in the split rule (resp. the planning units) and at the resources. The conversion is done using the conversion factors from material master.

You could do planning in a special unit of measure for weight + volume where you maintain conversion factors for gross weight + volume.

Hope that helps!

Dear Sebastian,

Can you please elaborate all that.

What I believe is that :

1) TP/VS uses the Alternative Unit of Measure data maintained in the material master, and that

2) it takes infinite number of decimal places when it performs conversion,

though I am not sure of these.

Please confirm above, and please elaborate how we can do planning in a special unit of measure for weight and volume.

Note that Base unit of Measure for materials is kilogram (kg) in some cases and Litre in others, and the Gross Weight and Net Weight are maintained in kg and volume are maintained in M3. Whereas all the resources capacities are maintained in terms of Mass in kg and volume in metre cube (M3).

Hi Sunil,

APO will always will have the Gross weight. You can check this in material master in APO. I suggest you do the following

1) Check the weight as appears in Frt Unit in TP/VS planning book

2) Check the Unit of Measure tab in APO to see weight conversion

Regarding Volume mismatch apply notes 1149244 and 1223313. We had raised OSS specifically for this in Feb08. Check the OSS message 0001039903/2007
