For a Central instance, or DB instance, follow the steps below. For an Application instance, ignore the step where you uninstall the database and / or delete the database datasets and directories.

  • Be very sure you have consulted evryone who will be affected !!!!

  • If this is a production, ensure that you have spoken to the business about their legal requirements fro data retention.

  • Stop the SAP and DBMS system.

On windows systems,

  • For recent SAP releases, you can run the Add or Remove Programs function from the Control panel.

For all platforms (regardless of whether you can run the Add or Remove Programs function

  • Depending on what else is installed on the server, you may (or may not) need to remove the DBMS install as well.

  • Delete all outstanding SAP datasets and directories for your instance

  • Delete all outstanding DBMS datasets and directories for your instance

  • Again, if this is a production instance or contains a copy of production data, use a secure method to erase the data - I use [eraser|http://www.tolvanen.com/eraser/] on Windows.
