Collabrative planning IN SAP APO-DP

Can anyone pls explain me about 'Collabrative planning' option in APO DP with following aspects,

1. It's importance

2. Possible Business scenarios

Is this option really used in Industries ?

Collabrative planning

1) Importance :-

a) It is very important to understand customer demand and act accordingly.

b) It helps to bridge customer, supplier, dealers, vendors between demand and supplies

c) It helps in quick transfer and retriveal of demand, supply elements within the supply chain system

d) It helps in reducing inventory of finished product to greater extent

e) It helps to control inventory of subcomponents which are stacked in stores

f) It helps in efficient forecasting system

g) It helps to bridge sales Vs forecast

2) Possible Business scenarios:-

a) Between a manufacturer and supplier, a supplier can look into the stock data of manufacturer on day today basis and maintain stock level both at the manufacturer area and also at supplier area to ensure smooth production.

b) Supplier providing supply and manufacturing schedule to manufactuer and exchange of information as and when it is needed

c) Reducing inventory level by mutual understanding of stock levels of finished goods between customer and vendor.

d) Accurate forecast population by customer for daily, weekly and monthly needs for procurement, planning and production.

Hi

To be very simple we will give access of a planning book to the customer(Even though he dont have APO). He can enter his forecast in the planning book. This is used to fine tune/accuracy of forecast. Supply chain planners will review that forecast also.

Search on Internet about VMI and CPFR Supply Chain concepts. CPFR (Collaborative Planning Forecast and Replenishment) is an advanced VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) concept.

Collaborative Planning in APO DP is nothing but SAP's solution to enable VMI and CPFR processes which are used heavily by Retail, Distribution, Consumer Goods, Auto and many manufacturing industries.
