Costing in projects can be of different sources. When ever we create a project we assign some employees to work on that project . that becomes one component of the cost . Other can be services, material, travel exps. and all . Now in some cases cost is updated on the project after confirmation of the project mgr like internal activities. every month periodic settlement is done than these cost is sended to particulat destination as we know project is temporarily maintained in the system and after closing its archived. so after settlement is done respective cost is sended to desire cost element. It can be cost center, interanl order, profitability segment.
I hope u would have got rought idea of the costing in PS.
