You can install it with the command:

java -jar PlatinGUI-Linux.jar

This will start the installatoin dialog (pretty much Windows like ...)

Thanks,

Hannes

Additionally ... just read the installation guide lines ...

ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/java/710r8/PlatinManual-HTML-7108.zip

ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/java/710r8/README.htm

Dear Duypm,

1)

Question: Does SAP GUI client support for Ubuntu?

Answer: SAP Note 959236 - Supported Java frontend platforms for 7.10 / 7.11 / 7.01 says:

  • * Linux

o Hardware:

CPU: Intel PentiumIII with 800 MHz

RAM: 512MB

o Software:

OS:

- SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

- openSUSE 10.2, 10.3, 11.0

- Fedora Core 7, 8 + 9

- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4

- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

JVM: Sun Java Runtime Evironment 5.0 or 6.0 (32-bit)

o please see http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/install-linux.html and http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/intl/locale.doc.html for details

However, it will run on Ubuntuu 32-bit. I have it installed on my Ubuntu 9.04 and it works w/o problems...

2)

Question: Now, which can production of SAP run on Ubuntu?

Answer: If you are refering to SAP on the server side, certified distributions are listed in SAP Note 171356 or on [|] -> Supported Platforms.

Thanks,

Hannes

hi,

in order to implement the sap on you linux system then you have to acquire licence of sap for you linux machine.

but in the case of front end where you have to install sap gui then sap provides only 3 frontend services :

1. sap gui for windows : for windows environment.

2. sap gui for java : for java environment.

3. sap gui for html : in this the request are transmitted through web browser and these are converted to the sap format by the ITS configured at the application server.

so if you want to configure a gui .. ie frontend only for your linux system then you have to install sap gui for java... as thats the only option since the java environment can be installed in your linux machine and for that you have to acquire the license.

Hope this will surely help you!!!

Thanks & Regards,

Punit Raval.

Normally we do connect and login to 'remote' SAP servers/systems of the client, from our PCs and our PCs normally have WINDOWS installed as an operating system. How we connect to those SAP systems via our WINDOWS platform/desktops ....using 'SAPgui for windows', right ?

It doesn't matter, on which operating system/platform the SAP is installed.

But in case you have Unix flavour operating system installed on your PC and then you want to connect to SAP systems, you need 'SAPgui for JAVA' here.

It doesn't matter, on which operating system/platform, the SAP is installed.

But what matters is 'from which platform, you are trying to connect to an SAP application or an SAP server.

For eg:

however, if you have an SAP system installed on linux operating system and then you are logged in into the same linux server and then you want to connect to SAP application from the same linux server, then also (and obviously as said above), you need to have 'sap gui for java' installed on your linux os/server.

please refer the notes to download and configure it

Note 146505 - SAP GUI for the Java environment (Platform Independent GUI)

Note 66971 - Supported SAP GUI platforms

hi,

usually sap doesnot provide a separate gui for linux.

so one has to use sap gui for java for linux

sap gui :

1. sap gui for windows.

2. sap gui for html.

3. sap gui for java.

so u need to acquire the license of sap gui for java.

also do check out the foll link:
