Solaris Zones woes

We have existing NW70 java BI stacks running successfully in Solaris Zones. When we tried moving the zones to a different physical server the sap systems won't start.

The startsap script finishes apparently successfully but the application is never properly started. Using jcmon the SDM process starts but server0 and the dispatcher are stuck with a status of 'starting'.

We're also getting similar behaviour with a dual-stack solution manager 7.0 system. The ABAP stack starts fine, but the java one won't start.

The move was implemented by restoring from backups. These are NW70 systems, on Oracle 10 & Solaris 10.

Any advice appreciated. Anyone using Zones and has moved them successfully?

Cheers.

Are the (virtual) hostnames identical (source and target)?

We use Sun Cluster 3.1 to "move" zones from one server to another, works like a charm.

Yes, the host names remain unchanged. The move was done by way of restoring backups. Will look into Cluster 3.1. Cheers.

Did you check the J2EE logfiles (dev_dispatcher, dev_bootstrap, dev_jcontrol etc.) for possible problems?

If you look at Sun Cluster, go for 3.2, they have the zone support builtin.
