Non-assigned Handling unit

HI,

What is a "Non-assigned Handling unit" ? when is it generated.Can you please provide any pointers to details/literature regarding Non-assigned handling units.

Handling unit can be generated for any movement type which will have inward or outward movement from HU managed storage location if auto creation of HU is active. also, HUs can be generated at packing stations, OBDs, IBDs etc. if the packing object status of any HU is 12 in HUMO then it is not assigned to any document and can be called a Non-assigned handling unit. if we delete the assignment of HU to the OBD, IBD,packing proposal in sales order, production order etc then this HU become non assigned HU and it can be used to pack other material.

could you please elaborate on why the packing object becomes non assigned（status to 12） after PGI, I've met the same problem, and it prevent me from editing the handling unit after PGI.

Hi,

a non-assigned handling unit is a free HU that is not assigned to any document and you can assign it to documents (outbound deliveries f.e. to post it to customer).

You can only have/store free HUs in your system when handling unit management is activated in your system (TVSHP-EXIDV_UNIQUE is set).

You can create non-assigned handling units with transaction hu02 f.e.

You can check in table VEKP if the HU is a free HU or not (if VEKP-VPOBJ is 12, it is a free HU).

Hello Prasad,

It is possible to create handling units without reference to a document. These "non-assigned handling units" are implemented whenever the physical creation of an HU is planned (in production, for example), or when an HU already exists physically but is not yet entered in the system (in the warehouse, for example).
