Hello !!
We are planning some tasks before to do an upgrade from v.4.7 to ECC 6.0, and one of this tasks is to install solution manager.
Actually our SAP landscape is an HP-UX Unix 11.11,with Oracle 9.2 with 3 diferents servers (DEV, TEST, PROD).
Our questions are:
Do we need to install Solution Manager in a new server ? What are the benefits ?
Is necessary to install whit the same platform HP, Oracle ,etc .. ?
Could do we install in Virtual Server with Windows and Oracle ?
Thanks in advance !!

For performance reasons and if you plan to implement other functions than Maintenance Optimizer that you will need for your upgrade.

Not necessarily.
> Could do we install in Virtual Server with Windows and Oracle ?
Since Solution Manager is to be treated as "production" system and there is no support for Oracle in a virtualized environment I would refrain from doing so.

Its depends on you how you want to go with but its better to maintain a standard platform through out your landscape
