Hi,
System Copy:
SAP System copy is one way to copy an SAP system into other of one or more following options:
- server / machine platform
- other SID (system ID)
- operating system (Linux, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, IBM-AIX, MS Windows)
- database product (MaxDB, MSSQL, DB2, Oracle)
There are two major types of System copy:
1. Homogenous - Copying system to Same Database and same OS (Details found
[service.sap.com/instguides]copying system to different Database and or OS (Need to Register with SAP and obtain a migration ket and use a certified igration consultant)
For more information regarding this [http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration (OS/DB Migration) ]
DB refresh
Database refresh can be done using DB utilities like RMAN backup/restore scripts or even exp/imp
Generally a database refresh is done on the same server. A database refresh is just like defragmentation in windows so that the space can be utilized more efficiently and performance also improves since the data of a segment is brought into a single extent.
The most importnat steps are listed in the Homogenous System Copy Guide
please look at this

Hello,
SAP System copy means both the SAP instance part and the Database part are reinstalled from the backup of an existing SAP system. SAPINST tool is used to perform the system copy process.
Database Refresh, or Database Copy means perfoming the Database copy only. Only the offline or consistent backup of the existing database is copied onto another SAP system and then required changes like SID are made.
SAP System copy using SAPINST tool allows you to perform Homegenous (same OS and DB) and Heterogenous (Different OS and/or Different DB) system copies. This process is also called SAP migration.
