customzation of object

Are a pdt. We have customers and new customers keep coming in.

So as everyone know, enhacements are part of every pdt.

this is again of customer specific and pdt enhancement.

Since there are more than 1 customers I am thinking a proper way to enhance the pdt.

1. If we add customer specific fields to the pdt the objects will be lengthier and 4 or 5 years down the line there will be too many objects for one customer which they dont use.

2. If we make customer specific enhancement, the general enhacements will be a problem and even general enhancements need to seperately done for each customer.

has anyone know a better approach that fits my requirement?

collate what each of customer needs and what it may need further down the line....get all the details and create reusable objects...be it a DT, mapping, business service etc.....and then (re)use it.....this is the normal approach followed when you feel the things will be under constant change....also you need to maintain a check on how any objects you can reuse......it should not happen that you create a spaghetti of the things....

The way you implement the solution is more towards on the functional approach....
