Differences between Windows and iseries filesystem

Former Member

Hi Guys,

I installed an application server over Win2003 with iSeries DB.

I have several programs and interfaces that use the directory: usr/sap/SID/interfaces

But now when i run this programs over Win Application server the access directory fails.

I try sharing this directory with iseries Netserver, but the filesystem in windows is: usr\sap\SID\...

and in iseries is usr/sap/SID/... (the character "/" and "\" is the difference).

Exist any form to do WIN file system read the directory tree as than as iseries file system??

Regards,

Ernesto Castro.

Hi Ernesto,

I do expect, that you are talking on Z-programs )

SAP doesn't do that kind of programming. They are using the transaction FILE and then the path is tored by operating system ...

=> You should change your programs accordingly ...

Hi Volker,

Thanks for you help.

I installed an application server in Windows 2003 with iseries (V5R4M0) DB server in my TEST System.

I run a testing programs, but some "Z" programs fails and some standard programs fails too.

I.E. We have a purchse orders with idocs generating in directory: /usr/sap/SID/interface

But when i create a purchase order in iseries APP this run OK, but when i create a purchase order in Win APP this fail.

the error is the diferrence between Win NFS ( \usr\sap....) and iseries NFS (/usr/sap/...), the "/" and "\" make the difference....

any suggestion for solve this problem???

Hi Ernesto,

In SAP you need to use e.g. transaction FILE in order to write and read the directory names ... this is often not done in Z-programs => therefore, they are then not platform independent ;-(((
