item categeories error

hi gurus,

can please guide me, can we change the item category after save the sale order? how can it?

Hi Abhi,

If you manually want to change the Item Category in your sales order then in ur item categories assignements (VOV4) you should have defined manual item category apart from dafault item category.

please check whether you have any manual item categories defined for the combination of

Saleas Doc type + Item Cat Grp + Usage + Hgr Lvl Item Ctg (VOV4)

Also there should not b any preceeding documents created for that order.

If after saving, you have created some Subsequent Documents ,then that Particular Line Item Category cant be changed becoz Item category is relevant for Delivery ,Pricing ,Billing and so on.

But W/o Subsequent Documents , can change as per the Item Category Group maintained in Material Master in Sales Org:2.Check the settings of your Sales Process in VOV4.

If you change the ItemCategory Group in Material Master and then maintain the settings in VOV4, then you will get the new Item Category.

It will show in new Sales Order.To check in the existing Sales Order ,then delete that Line Item and enter that Material Code.

See as far as the Item Category is concerned, it comes from the following sources

1. Material Master.

But for manual entry you have to set up in the Confirugation part.

Go to the path --> IMG --> Sales and Distribution --> Sales --> Sales Document Item --> Assign Item Category. Here you put the value of the item category for the combination of Sales Document type, Item category Group, item Usage, item cat (Higher).

After assigning is done, then select the sales order for which item cat needs to be changed. Then go to the change mode and put the value from the pop up or with the value maintained in the configuration.

Goto VA02, enter the order no

goto item category tab, press F4, it may show list of option, select the item category and save it

and you can add same material in 2 line

Hi Abi,

The Item Category can be changed after saving an sales order, unless untill that depends on the Item Category Determination ie T.Code VOV4.

Kindly check the business process of your client on what basis the item category can be changed. The following can be the reasons.

1. The business needs the free goods to be automatically triggered for particular material group.

2. The business needs the doc. type that ur using for particular transaction. Eg. for Replacement order, Samples orders ..etc.

check properly the customizing of our business and then do the necessary changes for Item Category Determination

Hi,

When the sales order is having subsequent documents then it is not possible to change the item category.

If the sales order is not having any subsequent documents then the process is:

Goto VOV4 T.Code.

I hope you know the Item category determination.

Sales Document typeItem Category groupItem Usage+Item Category of Higher level Item=Item Category.

Check for your item what is the Item category group.

In VOV4 T.Code maintain your new item category for your valid combination and save.

Next goto VA02,Enter your order number and press Enter.

Delete the existing line item and enter the same material numebr again and check now it will fetch the new item category now.
