Migrate from where to where?

From R3 to ECC6.

I still do not understand.

One does not "migrate" single tables, usually you do an upgrade of the system to a new version including all the tables.

Please tell me what you complete requirement is.

Hi Markus,

my concern is actually, when I migrate i.e. the Material from one system to another I need the different Data like MRP Controler in the new system.

Now I noticed, there is no Bapi or else to bring the MRP Controler to the new system, but it is needed for the Material.

So, what can I do.

Either I maintain the entries by hand or copy the table or...?

I would like to know the best solution or any solution.

Thanks in advance for any hint.

I wonder why you don't upgrade the source system (or a copy of it).

It's usually not a good idea to copy the content of single tables. The ERP system is pretty complex and table entries may relate to other tables.

I would do the UPGRADE instead of trying to copy data around. The upgrade itself will take care of this.

Hi,

It is not recomended to Copy only one table... but it is possible using the DB tools....

Please let me know your source and target database type (DB2, Oracle ....)

Thanks

Hi Manoj,

I'm not sure about the procedure for upgrade or new installation for ECC6.

Assume I have a R3 system and I want to migrate to ECC6, what is the common procedure in short,

and further regarding to tables in customizing(t024D etc.).

Thanks in advance

This process is called "upgrade", not migration. Migration is used in the context of changing the operating system, the database or both.

If you do an upgrade you don't deal with single tables but the system as a complete unit. Basically the steps are:

1. Get the upgrade documentation

http://service.sap.com/instguides

--> SAP Business Suite Applications

--> SAP ERP

--> SAP ERP 6.0

--> Upgrade

The use the link for the media you have (ordered), either with EHP4 or without.

2. Read the upgrade guide

Consider a few days to read all the mentioned note and the full guide to get an overview what needs to be done.

3. Do the upgrade according to the guide and the notes

4. Customizing tables are "automatically" adapted to the new version, you may, however, need to do some delta customizing, depending on what functionality you use and how you use it. Modifications to the system must be maintained, the upgrade tool will request you to do so.

Hi Markus,

this is what I wanted to know, the difference between update and migration and the consequence.

Thanks Jimbob

Hi,

Upgrade is from lower version to uper version i.e from R/3 to ERP 6.0

Migration is from one technology to other i.e. ERP 6.0 source system's database was Oracle now you want to move the database to DB2, similarly if you change the OS it will be migration.

Some times it is also called Heterogeneous System Copy or OS-DB Migration.

Thanks

Manoj
