Hello,
we intend to upgrade our PI to 7.1. One of the interesting points of 7.1 is the possibility to make point-to-point connections that do not need PI itself in runtime. However, I don't find any examples of the connection between a non-SAP and an SAP system. Is this direct-connection scenario also possible for non-SAP systems and are there any examples of this. The possibility is not contradicted anywhere, but still ...
This scenario would also help us to keep connections up and running during possible downtime of our PI system (maintenance, upgrades or what so ever).
Are there also any examples of using different PI-systems connected to some load-balancing helping to avoid problems when one PI is down (foreseen or unforeseen).
Thanks and kind regards.

Hi,
-> Point-to-Point (P2P) only works with ABAP proxy based system (till now).
-> Not sure but P2P scenarios will work fine even if PI is down (direct connection using web-service).
-> You can use failover and load-balancing in PI to avoid disruptions (see configuration guide).

Hi!
As far as I know direct connection do only work for SAP NetWeaver Systems (at least 7.0 with high SP level) and not for Non-SAP systems. How should it work for Non-SAP system? They do not have a local integration engine. So you will always need a PI. Or you implement a classical point-to-point interface without PI, thus making the PI more or less superfluous
