"'EPCM' is undefined" error while logging onto EP

Former Member

Hi,

When I try logging in to the portal with the Administrator user name and password, only a blank page gets displayed. I am not able to view any of the worksets and pages though the server is in running condition.

An error appears in the bottom left corner of the browser, which upon clicking gives me the following error:

'EPCM' is undefined.

Please help me in solving this.

Thanks & Regards,

Sharmila

I am getting the same error with one user but rest of them do not get any error while loggin on to the portal? Why this could be ? How can I fix ? I have tried it with all browsers but getting this error. Is this a problem with server side or client side ?

hey Bill,

there is no need to play with browsers. this is a portal server problem.

Go to config tool--> Glober server congiguration -->

services>http> there will be a parameter

NeverCompressed -->

just add *.js in that list of extension just as everyother parameter there.

Click Set

Save -- say Apply in config tool File menu.. logout..

Now restart the j2ee server and then the problem will be solved...

let me know your status after trying this..

Hi Sharmila,

Are u using IP address to access portal. IF yes then never use IP address for accessing Portal. Always use Fully qualified domain name for accessing portal.

Hi,

I would like to mention that this error appears in the portal login page itself.

Thanks,

Sharmila.

Hi Sharmila,

I think u must be using IE as browser. Just try out using different broser other than this (maybe mozill, netscape etc.)

Hi Sharmila,

Which Service Pack are you using for EP ?

Hi Sharmila,

open the portal page, and immediately check out the trace file at this location -

C:\usr\sap\EP6\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\log

This might help get a better idea about what the error is all about.

Thanks,

Hi

The main error says "Failed to load client to connect to SLD. Please check your SLD connection settings using the Visual Admin".

Hi Sharmila,

You need to set up the SLD settings in Visual Admin.

1) In the Visual Administrator, choose Cluster -> Server -> Services -> SLD Data Supplier -> Runtime -> HTTP Settings.

Follow this link .

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/ea/cd2e807e0e45bf9da67354f452fc05/frameset.htm

It tells you what settings to be done in HTTP Settings.

2) Also In the Visual Administrator, choose Cluster -> Server -> Services -> SLD Data Supplier -> Runtime -> CIM Client Generation settings you need to enter the host name, user password, etc.

This shall solve your problem.

Thanks,

Samta

Sharmila,

It's not fair to ask others to help and then only give a "we solved the problem" post when you resolve an issue.

I'll reiterate what several people have said: Could you please share what you did to solve the problem.

Thanks!

Hey Saurabh,

Make a search for the 'com.sap.portal.epcf.loader.par.bak' file and rename it to .par (remove the .bak extension).

Restart you portal services (dispatcher + server) and you will see (along the starting process) that the epcf.loader is getting deployed again. For some reason these files get lost (maybe a bug) and not recognized for the portal, that's why you have to deploy them again.

Try to login again and it should work fine now.

You might need later to make the same process (deploy) another .par files as well (for icons, bitmaps or another elements).

Hope this helps you.

I've just encountered the problem.

One solution seems to work: check the IE 6.0 updates (on client side): if there is only SP1, you should add Microsoft Securities Updates (I don't remember the exact name of the update, should be KB....) for this IE version. See it in the About Menu of Internet Explorer.

After the installation, remove temporary internet files, and go back to the portal.

It worked for me.
