Hi,
I have a configurable material A and its variant B.
I have configured the variant charcteristics in the "configure variant" tab and assigned A in the configurable material field in material master.
When create sales order for A and choose characteristic combination that matches with that of B, I expect the system to replace the item A in sales order with B. This is not happening.
Could you please point out any missing setting that could be causing this?
(The config strategy, and variant matching & Mat.variant.action fields are already defined in the item category of the sales order)
Thanks,
Ashok
Hello Ashok
Firstly during order creation, check if any variant is matching by using the Variant Matching on the Value Assignment Screen functionality. That tells if you if your config is really matching a variant or not, although you may be thinking you have done it correctly, you might not have.
Second in the config profile maintained for the Configurable material, check
1) Check the 'config parameters' tab and ensure you set the BOM explosion as None.
2) In the 'user interface' tab, click on the settings button and in the next window, 'Object Dependent settings'. check the 'variant matching' tab. Do settings as per you need here. For example you can set 'type matching' to be 'permanent' and 'strategy' to be 'complete configuration'.
Do all these steps and see if you meet with success and revert.

This is not material determination.
Check that Variant Matching is set in the Config Profile.
For Material B. you do have 001-type Classification values assigned, correct?
My guess is it's in the config profile.

Hi
If you want to replace material A with B. Then you need to do Material Determination too. For that here are the settings:
SPRO - > SD - > Basic Function -> Material Determination - >
1. Maintain Prerequisites for Material Determination
Maintain field catalog
Maintain access sequences
Define condition types
Maintain procedure
Create condition tables
Display condition tables
Change Condition Table
2. Assign Procedures To Sales Document Types
3. Define Substitution Reasons
4. Then Maintain Materials for substitution in VB11.
Then your requirement will work.
