Is there any links to documents that have SAP/.Net code examples that calls a database to populate a table or dropdown when viewing the iview.

You can easily do this using .NET databinding. I'm sure you find a couple of tutorials in the PDK online documentation. Additionally there is a technical artible wirtten by Ofer Feldmanm here on SDN.
