Error:Reverse lookup of address failed:(NW7.01ABAPTrailVersionInstallation)

Hi Experts,

There are lot of discussion threads around installation problems in SDN. I tried searching for my error and could not find relevant one. Please let me know if there is one.

I was trying to install SAP NetWeaver 7.01 SR1 SP3 ABAP Trial Version on Windows XP SP 2 (using VMware)

I struck at the step: 2

SAP System > DNS Domain Name

My system name is "jakkasap.ent.localhost.com".

I entered "ent.localhost.com" in the input field 'DNS Domain Name for SAP System' and was getting bellow error:

    • ERROR: Reverse lookup of address '-64.-88.-124.129' failed. **

I tried with following values but no use:

"ent.localhost.com/"

"/ent.localhost.com/"

"jakkasap"

Even though we can skip this setting and continue installation, I think this setting is necessary for Web Dynpro development.

So, could any one help in finding right value for the 'DNS Domain Name for SAP System' input field?

Regards,

Praveen Jakka.

Hi,

please check the etc/host file in the drivers that it has the entry.

ip address hostname.domain.com hostname

please check the local DNS name that you are giving.

i think your host name is jakkasap.

Thanks

Hi Rishi,

First of all thanks for responsing to my question.

The error is still present even after the following steps:

1) Added the follwing line in hosts file of my virtual machine's Windos XP SP2 system:

192.168.132.129 jakkasap.ent.localhost.com jakkasap

jakkasap -> is the computer name

ent.localhost.com -> Primary DNS suffix of this computer

2) Restarted the system

3) started the SAP NW7.01ABAP Trail Version Installation again.

My computer also has Workgroup as MSHOME. Does this make any difference?

Thanks,

Praveen Jakka.

This issues has been resolved.

I gave static IP: 10.10.0.10 to my Windows XP system (Virtual PC) and then added the following line in host file:

10.10.0.10 jakkasap.ent.localhost.com jakkasap

Thanks,

Hi, hope this thread is still read by the contributors.

My questions are:

1. Is it possible to configure FQDN on a windows xp machine that is not in a domain, but in a workgroup?

2. If so, how?

3. If not, how can I solve the issue of installing netweaver 7.01 on a "home-pc"?

Thanks in advance for your kind answers.

XP (SP2)

Cotrol Panel -> System: record sheet 'Computer Name' -> 'Change...'-Button to join a domain -> 'More...'-Button -> field Primay DNS suffix e.g. "mycompany.com", 'Change primay DNS suffix when domain mermbership changes' activate.
