Upgrade process from SAP ECC 6.0 to SAP EHP4 on Windows 32 Bit (ABAP+ J2EE)

Hi!

I would like to upgrade SAP ECC 6.0 SPS 15 to SAP EHP4 on Windows 32 Bit.

According to SAP note 1256600 this procedure should be splittet into:

1) Upgrato EHP3 via SAINT

3) Delta Upgrade from EHP3 to EHP4 via SAINT

I have the following questions regarding this procedure

1) when I should change the SAP kernel from 7.00 to 7.01?

2) should/must I also update my J2EE stack from SPS 15 to EHP4 via JSPM?

2a) Can J2EE-update via JSPM be executed simultaneously with EHP3/4-Upgrade via SAINT?

2b) If NO --> when should the J2EE-update via JSPM be executed? (after ABAP-EHP3 update, after ABAP-EHP4-Update, etc.)

Thank you very much!

1) when I should change the SAP kernel from 7.00 to 7.01?

You'll know, SAINT will tell you when the kernel is needed before you can resume. When upgrading the kernel make sure you Read Note 684106 - Microsoft runtime DLLs

2) should/must I also update my J2EE stack from SPS 15 to EHP4 via JSPM?

You should, (not must)... You'll get all the patches you need in the Stack Info at SAP Marketplace

2a) Can J2EE-update via JSPM be executed simultaneously with EHP3/4-Upgrade via SAINT?

I wouldn't do them simultaneously.

2b) If NO --> when should the J2EE-update via JSPM be executed? (after ABAP-EHP3 update, after ABAP-EHP4-Update, etc.)

You can do them after your ABAP stack is fully patched.

Hi!

Many thanks for your response!

One question:

EHP3 has serveral SPS versions (1, 2, 3).

Do I need always the last SPS of EHP3 in order to update after from EHP3 to EHP4

or can I have EHP3, SPS1 and update my system to EHP4?

1) When I should change the SAP kernel from 7.00 to 7.01?

>You'll know, SAINT will tell you when the kernel is needed before you can resume. When upgrading the >kernel make sure you Read Note 684106 - Microsoft runtime DLLs

According to SAP Note:

Caution: If you install SAP ERP 6.0 EHP 4, you must use SAP KERNEL 7.01 32-bit. This kernel is not released for general use on a system with SAP_BASIS 700. The installation of SAP ERP 6.0 EHP4 is an exception: Only install this kernal directly before you install EHP 4.

So I would proceed as follows:

1) EHP3-Update with SAINT

2) Kernel switch from 700 ti 701

3) Start of EHP3/EHP4-Update with SAINT

Is it ok?

Thank you!

Do I need always the last SPS of EHP3 in order to update after from EHP3 to EHP4

That info must be in the requirement list of EHP4

If you install SAP ERP 6.0 EHP 4, you must use SAP KERNEL 7.01 32-b

If thats what the note says then follow the note, anyhow if the kernel if not updated SAINT will not let you resume as should be part of the SP requirements.

According to what I've learned a combined ABAP + Java installation MUST be always patched together up to the same level, this is not optional.
