Pros and cons of having two middlewares

Former Member

Hi all,

Can anyone help in this ?

Let me explain my exact scenario:

We have an SAP ECC Server and a third-party application connected via biztalk. Now we need to connect SAP ECC system with SAP Enterprise Portal via a SAP PI System.

I need to know what would be the disadvantages of using 2 middlewares as mentioned above.

Also any documents you have to support would be appreciated.

Regards,

V Karthi

Hi Karthi,

Your question does not have a simple answer as it envolves sereval aspects, such as business needs, maintenance and developlment skills available in your company, technical and infrastrucutre aspects and so on.

Despite of that, regards to technical aspects you can keep both as SAP NetWeaver PI can be integrated to Microsoft BizTalk using SOAP protocol.

Keeping both integrated you can get most of their functionallites. SAP PI is proven for SAP oriented middleware and is widely used by SAP customers specially in your case that you have SAP Portal solution.

One think that you have to figure out is what you have in BizTalk that you really need to be there and cannot be moved to SAP PI. And offcourse the costs and risks envolved on doing this.

The only think that I shall advice you is that you should keep a central administration in SAP PI as you are a SAP customer mainly using SAP ERP and SAP Portal.
