Dear All,
Please explain the purpose of using "Functional Location" in WBS?
Thanks
This can also be used mostly in case of a Capital Projects. For example in Utility Industry you are having a project of constructing new substation. You are doing this project at a particular location, which is defined as Functional location in PM. In such a case you will use this F Location on that WBS.

Dear All,
Thanks for the replies. One more issue to be clarified...
When materials are issued, equipment being created in the system. These equipment we have to manually assign to a functional location.
Is there is a way for us to automatically assign these equipment to a functional location?
Thanks

You need to install equipment on functional location manually....i think this the way only.
there is no automatic assignment function available.

You have to create the material as Equipment first in IE01...
Also for Equipment installation
1. In the functional location master data in structure tab "equipment installation allowed" should be activated
2. In the customising against the equipment category installation alllowed should be activated
the path is SPRO - Plant maitenance and customer service - Master data - technical object - Equipment-Equipment usage period - Define installation at functional location.
Once this is done you can install Equipment at FLOC and it will get automatically linked with WBS bcos of FLOC assignment.
Thanks

We use it for SM module, where after installation of an equipment at a particular functional location(which is put in WBS), the installation WBS is updated with the installation cost from installation activities. After the activities are confirmed, an acceptance certificate is generated mentioning this functional location along with equipment.

Hello Friends,
Now my question to all my friends here is that if we can raise a purchase order against a functional location. We have a requirement in which we need "location identifier" on WBS against which we want to raise a PO. I know that we have three fields on WBS of such relevance -
1. Location
2. Plant
3. Functional Location
First two don't meet the requirements for other business requirement complications but not the system; so can we use functional location to play the role of 'location' concept and cut POs.

When WBS is used as assignment object in PM at that time Equipment & Funcational Location can be assigned on WBS assignment tab.
