How to handle error when importing taxonomy for product using XML?

We are on MDM 5.5 and built a repository for SAP R/3 Material Master. It has basic material information and taxonomy information as well. We built an import map based on an XML file, which includes basic info as well as taxonomy (classification) info. The import process runs smoothly. But if the import file includes some materials which characteristic values don't exist in MDM, the import will fail and exception file has a complete different format as our import file also it only display one material. Therefore, we cannot reprocess the exception file for errorred out items. What could we do wrong? By the way, we use "Create Pivot table" option in MDM to create the original import map.

Hi Micheal,

If I understood your problem, you are trying to import an XML file with materials and their characteristics.

When you try to import a material whos characteristic are not maintained in MDM as a look up value, the file will fail to import.

You need to change the configuration settings > Set MDIS Unmapped Value Handling = Add and

Automatic Value Mapping as YES and save the map once again.

Hope it helps.

I tested this suggestion and I think it will solve our issue.

Hi,

There are two ways:

1. Either you shud initialize your taxonomy with all attributes values in MDM Data Manager in taxonomy mode. You can do it either manually creating the desired attribute and their values and link those attributes with Desired categories in Taxonomy mode. Other way you can import using imort manager too in four steps.

2. we cannot reprocess the exception file for errorred out items.

I would add here after error coming due to Structure exception or Value exception. your this error exception file will get store into any of these exception folder, Now using import Manager, Select Type: PORT you will see drop down list for your Port from where you will have enable PORTName[Exception].

on selecting this load your existing map. Add the the desired values for your Attribute manually and then save this map.

Otherwise if it does not work as expected then Delete the files under Exceptions folder, reimport the file using Type: XMLSchema and open against your saved map. if in import action it is showing, map Atrribute values, map those values on removing Matching fields after adding those attribute values, select your matching field/fields and on coming Import action: Ready to import Save this map. then try putting this file into your respective ready folder.

Hi Micheal,

I Think your problem is similar to the below one,you can refer the below link for the same.

What you need to make sure is that you are using the same structure of the source file for importing as you used while creating the map else it wont work.

Your schema of the source file as well the schema used when creating the map must match.

You can refer the below links to know more about Taxonomy data importing:
