Is it any functional problem if I delete oracle alert log ( /oracle/<SID>/saptrace/background/alert_<SID>.log)

Hello Jan,

no there isn't any problem. Just be sure that the oracle database is shutdown when you delete the alert_<SID>.log. The file is recreated during database start.

Dear Stefan,

Its not required to shutdown database when delete alert<SID>.log file.

Alert log automatically create when log enry occure so its not necessary to create only startup.

No problem.You can delete alert<SID>.log any time while DATABASE is running.

When any log entry occure it will create automatically.No need to startup or down.

Hi,

You can rename the Alert log while the Oracle instance is up. The Alert log will be recreated when the next alert entry is written.
