Upgrade Support Package Level vs. Transport between SAP Systems

Former Member

Hi all,

We are going to upgrade support package level in all SAP Systems in our

landscape but as you know better, Itu2019s not possible to upgrade all SAP

systems in the same time. Therefore this process takes some time to be

done. During this time, all users including ABAP Developers and

Consultants are working in SAP Systems, doing customizing and creating

Transport Requests.

My question is doing transport between SAP Systems in a landscape which

are not in the same support package level may cause any problem in our

processes or is allowed? Should I ask users to not create any

customizing/workbench requests until all SAP Systems will be upgraded?

Thanks in advance,

Sanaz.

normally it process should be complete for dev/qa/prd withing two to four weeks, you can continue with the transports which are crucial for business point of view. If you are going to upgrade the QA withing one week after the dev, then normally less or new development work put on hold for just a week

What might happen if I upgarde QA at first step then DEV and finally PROD? Is it normal procedure?

Dev -> QA -> PRD is the normal procedure

it helps to analyze if anything goes wrong after applying SPs and you can rectify the problems or related after issues with dev first and move the rectifications into qa n PRD, and then can go ahead to apply SPs in QA, PRD

Hi

pls be sure that Production system should be the last one and take the downtime befor as it takes time. Go with Dev and check whether it works fyne then proceed further .

Hello Sanaz,

Transports should not be an issue

Also I would suggest you for dev on 1st weekend,qa on 2nd weeked and prod on 3rd weekend and the order as specified by all of the above should be dev-qa and prod

Yes Sanaz,

The process should be DEV>>>QAS>>>PRO

And i suggest you to take down time(business) for applying support patches. Even for Development.

Dear Nick Loy,

Thank you for the reply.

I do take down time for each SAP Systems during upgrade process but my main question is: Should I stop transporting requests between DEV, QAS and PROD until all SAP Systems become at the same level? As you know this process may take more than a week.

I don't know how to handle this gap.

Thanks,

Sanaz.
