SGEN not using up all the dialog work processes

Hi Gurus,

I am running SGEN on solution manager sr3 sp12 for all the components.

os:windows 2003 server sp2

ram:1.48gb (on each application servers)(i know its low to install solman)

processor: AMD athlon(m) 64 X2 Dual core processor 3600+ 1.90GHz

virtual memory:10gb

Hard Drive:

central system: total 160GB (C(OS):43.9GB free-17.4, D(swap):4.87 free-169MB, E:100GB free-39.6GB)

Dialog instance: total 80GB (C(OS):19.5GB free-6.97, D(swap):4.87 free-169MB, E:50GB free-44.4GB)

C.I has total 17 Work processes (10 DIA, 3 BTC, 1 UPD, 1 UP2, 1 SPO, 1 ENQ)

only 2 DIA status shows running all other WP in wait (ran SGEN t-code from dialogue instance as i was unable to see both servers while selecting servers to run WP)

D.I has total 13 Work processes (11 DIA, 2 BTC)

only 6 DIA status shows running, 1 BTC stop : reason ARFC, all other WP in wait

created logon group parallel_generators for both C.I and D.I

Problems:

1. not all the dialog WP are used

2. BTC WP status is stop reason ARFC

3. taking too long (i know that i donot have much ram)

4. able to see both servers while selecting servers for running parallel_generators from dialog instance ONLY

Is that the problem with the RAM size? (i guess this is the problem as WP needs memory to run..correct me if i am wrong)

How can i use up all the DIA wp to speed up the process?

Please donot laugh at me b'coz of ram,HDD etc...i am just trying

Thanx in advance

it's not only low, it's too less. The system will be mainly occupied with swapping.

You install a 32bit OS on a 64bit CPU? why?

You may need to apply

Note 1132507 - SGEN: Using maximum number of free work processes

Hello,

I believe your bottleneck is the single V1 Update work process. Go to SM13 and you'll see that your Update requests are backed up. Increase the number of V1 Update work processes using parameter rdisp/wp_no_vb. You're still using default = 1, so increase to at least 3 and you should see performance improve greatly.

Thanks,

John
