BOE XI 3.1 - Upgrade vs. Update

Former Member

We are running BOE XI 3.0 and are investigating how to upgrade to version 3.1, in doing so we came across a terminology problem.

Some documents refers to the BOE XI 3.1 upgrade software whereas other refers to the BOE XI 3.1 update software (e.g. use the "update" to get all .NET components functional when moving from 3.0 to 3.1).

Questions:

1) what is the difference between the "upgrade" and the "update" media?

2) we could only find the "upgrade" software in the SAP download site, where is the "update" software?

thanks.

So, are you saying that the SAP/BO documentation is mistakenly using the word "update" when it should use "upgrade"? Here is an extract:

"Customers who want to upgrade from BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.0 to get the corrections and enhancements included in XI 3.1 must install the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 Update installation package in the 'Upgrades' section"

So there is no "update installation" (versus upgrade installation)?

Yes.

There is no 3.0 to 3.1 update. The only patch available is the 3.1 upgrade.

Besides, as you probably know, the Upgrades section does not differentiate between an update and an upgrade.

For example, the 3.1 upgrade for Windows is called:

BOBJ ENTERPRISE XI3.1(SERVER/CLIENT TOOLS) PATCH WINDOWS 1/3

Hope this helps.

Best.

There is no 'update' media. BOE XI 3.1 is considered a (rather significant) upgrade to BOE XI 3.0 (RTM).
