SAPinst phase "Install common system files" doesn't end.

0 Kudos

Hi,<br>

<br>

Now, we're trying to install NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 on AIX 5.3.<br>

But, after executing SAPinst at mid-way of the phase of "Install common<br>

system files", the Installation doesn't make progress. SAPinst process is still<br>

alive and keep going, but "sapinst.log" and "sapinst_dev.log" don't<br>

print at all after the certain point.<br>

<br>

If anyone experiences such this phenomena and knows the way to solve, please help.<br>

<br>

The last part of "sapinst_dev.log" and "sapinst.log" are below.<br>

<br>

Best Regards,<br>

Hey All,

   When I had the same issue and I checked the sapinst_dev.log I could see that it was checking the authorizations of all of the previously installed objects. It appeared to hange when doing the 000JOBLG, 100JOBLG, etc. as you know these have lots of very small files.  Before you start copy them to a different name. Results no appeared hang.

Hi,

We have the same problem when we do the java system copy. sapinst just waits for hours on the step "Install common system files".

Please let me know if anyone know a solution.

Thanks,

Hello,

has anyone found a reason for this. I'm facing the same problem.

I figure, that NFS mounts might be a problem. All the installation media I use is located on FSs, which are mounted via NFS.

Can anyone confirm this suspicion.

I had the same problem and I think it was caused by the fact that there were 300,000 job logs in the file system. I am not sure, but I think sapinst was checking the permissions on all those files. After I deleted most of the files, I ran sapinst again and the "Install common system files" phase finished within a few minutes.

check your network card. one of the reason could be network not available.

Hi,

To Thomas,

Thanks much for your reply and fruitfule comments!

Now, I'm trying to execute SAPinst again and waiting 1 hour and more as you say. If the situation changes, I'll infrom this thread of it.

To Riswan,

Thank you for your replay!

But, your comment about network card seems a little bit ambiguous. If you have some causes or some experiences of your comment, could you please let me know about it?

Anyway, thank you very much for your effort and kind reply.

Best Regards,

Dai

Hi Daisuke Ikari,

I also faced the same problem while installing the Netweaver 2004s SR2, the only difference was that I was doing it on Windows.

Please have a look on the Installation logs, whether the time & date of the log files is changing or not. If it is changing, wait as for me the installation took almost 40 hours. The problem is that the Installation is running in the back ground & the GUI is not getting updated as the Java_monitor log is not getting updated.

So you can close the GUI & restart it & then continue from the last ended no need to go with run a new installtion.

Hi,

Thank you all very much for your kind reply!

I succeeded in the installation and the issues were solved.

I've used the following command to execute sapinst.

  1. ./sapinst -nogui &

So, I execute SAPinst GUI on the local PC.

But, this time I execute like this.

  1. ./sapinst

And sapinst completed the installation normally.

Anyway, I really thank you all very much.

Dai

Hi,

we had to wait 1 hour 10 minutes, than the phase 3 comes to an end and the installation process continues.

Hi,

we have the same problem when using sapinst to install the target system during a system copy. The phase

3 "Install common system files" is hanging. In the log files sapinst.log and sapinst_dev.log nothing will be

added. We want to install ERP 6.0 on Solaris 5.10.

Please let me know, if you have solved the problem.
