I am a beginner in the SAP-XI. Can you please help me to get information about,

how and why Adapter Engine is used ?

Adapter engine takes care of all incoming and outgoing message in XI.

Basically deals with Protocol handling and message conversion ie Native format to XML and vice versa.

Hi,

Adapter engine is used to send and receive the messages using the message and transport protocol.

If the user requires the data with secure way communication then it will give the option to do that.

It is a part of Integration server.

The task of an Adapter in SAP XI is to translate from the sender message format to XI message format or XI message format to receiver message format and can also be a called as a communication protocol between sender/receiver and SAP XI.

Adapters are used to change the incoming message into XI native message format(i.e. xml messsage) and outgoing message into receiver specific format.
