Visual Composer connection to BW3.5

I have a couple of questions that I did not find answers to in the forum.

1) Do I need to have the J2EE engine installed on my BW 3.5 instance to use VC with it? We only installed the ABAP engine when we upgraded to BW3.5. How limited will VC be with this system?

2) I am trying to create a system for my BW3.5 sandbox in our EP6 portal and I get the following errors when I do the system connection test. I have seen similar errors discussed here, but have not found anything that works yet. Any input on there errors would be appreciated.

SAP Web AS Connection

Test Details:

The test consists of the following steps:

1. 1. Check that the system object defines an SAP system

2. Check if the system can be retrieved

3. Check if a SAP system is defined in the system object

4. Validate the following parameters: WAS protocol; WAS hostname

5. Check HTTP/S connectivity to the defined back-end application

Results

1. The system ID is valid

2. Retrieval of the system was successful

3. The system object represents an SAP system

4. The following parameters are valid: WAS Protocol (http) WAS Host Name (sapbwsci.ipaper.com:1080)

5. HTTP/S connection failed

Test Connection with Connector

Test Details:

The test consists of the following steps:

1. Retrieve the default alias of the system

2. Check the connection to the backend application using the connector defined in this system object

Results

Retrieval of default alias successful

Connection failed. Make sure user mapping is set correctly and all connection properties are correct.

Jeff,

To answer your questions:

#1) No.

#2) There is a great new document out on the Visual Composer How To pages which will step you through (with pictures) to resolve your connection issue. It's quite comprehensive. Go to: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/visualcomposer , and click on "How To Guides" on the right-hand side.

Regards,

Greg
