CommVault backup for SAP

Former Member

Hello,

We use CommVault as our backup system and are reviewing the process for DR. We just use the standard CommVault iDataAgent but wonder if it's worth paying extra for the SAP iDataAgent or backing up the system another way (as we use SQL2005, I have suggested buying a new server, cloning it and use the log shipping facility, along with copying the database nightly).

Can anyone shed any light on how they back their systems up, please.

Thanks,

Mark.

Hello,

we've the Commvault / Oracle.

We use actually the following procedure.

1. Backups are planned via DB13

2. Backup will written via a file share to the Commvault-Server.

3. The backuped database files will backuped on the Commvault-Server via Filesystemagent

On MS SQL you can do it as following.

1. setup to run the database service and sql agent service on a domainuser

2. create a share on Commvault-Server and get the domainuser permissions

3. plan your backup on SQL Server via maintenance plan to the share

4. backup the backuped db via filesystemagent on the Commvault-Server

Best regards
