I am currently working on a 3.1 3.5 Upgrade project and am aware of SAP documentation on the upgrade process. However, I am now looking for real live experience and issues and would be grateful if anyone could assist with the following:
1. Security objects/authorizations did you encounter any problems here and if so what? Can you recommend objects that we should consider as part of our test procedure? We have installed SEM 4.0 as part of the upgrade
2. Settings for example say performance related (i.e. line item, compression) would you recommend carrying out checks here? Did you encounter any changes in settings/problems if so what?
3. Any specific problems with BI Content as a result of the upgrade?
4. Load issues?
5. Any thoughts/suggestions otherwise?
Thanks in advance

Hi Harry,
Could you please forward the 3.1 to 3.5 upgrade document to me as well? We have already started our functional testing after 3.5 install in our sandbox environment. Am already beginning to notice that some basic things are not working. For example, we get short dump errors when trying to schedule any of the existing infopackages attached to our infosources.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Ravi

We recently upgraded form 3.1 to 3.5 SP14. A fairly uneventful conversion at our site.
I'm assuming you are planning to convert to an even more recent SP than 14. Couple of problems we had -
- an issue with some Master Data text not loading after conversion. There was a Note that resolved this, but the main problem was that it did not manifest as a load problems - no records got extracted.
- a problem with queries on InfoObjects set as InfoProviders - authorization issue - when we applied SP 15 broke. A note form 17 corrected it.
- a problem with ODS statistics collection. SP 14 changed things so after every activation, DB stats were being collected automatically, which took a long time on our large ODSs. One note from SP 15 provided some options that helped, but also a note from SP 16.
- I'm not not real familiar with inventory, but this week we just discovered a problem with nonvaluated inventory that was due to 3.5. Don't think we have it resolved yet.
Main thing is to have spend a little time reviewing Notes from any SPs more recent than what you are converting to so you have some idea of what's lurking out there after your conversion, and if any strike you as being a real problem.

Hi Harry,
we've just finished our upgrade a week before, without any prob's (1 exception) following the SAP HowTo upgrade preparation and post-upgrade checklist.
prob's we had only in datamart extraction as we always received no rec's in delta extractions. reason was problem's in factviews which forced us to run SAP's SAP_FACTVIEWS_RECREATE (as described in note 565086), after doing that all is fine now.
