Hi,
We have SAP 4.6 C system on Oracle. We want to do kernel upgade from 4.6D EXT to 4.6D EX2.
System Details:
Sap 4.6C on WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA64 64BIT
Oracle 9.2.0.4
Current kernel 4.6D EXT 64-BIT 1920
Kernel to be upgraded to 4.6D_EX2 64-BIT
But i checked on PAM and it say that oracle should be minimum ORACLE 10.2 64-BIT.
So can kernel can be upgraded without upgrading Oracle upgarde?
And can it be tried on development and if not successful reverted back and how?
Regards,
Ganesh
Hi Ganesh,
I faced same issueyes, you can safely upgrade your kernel to patch level 2331
There is no need to upgrading Oracle to 10, there's no relation between them.
Thanks,
Minakshi

Hi Ganesh,
Yes for your requirement, you would require Oracle 10G. You can go for 10.2.0.2 or a newer version 10.2.0.4.
First do the oracle upgrade and then the kernel upgrade.
Yes, you can first do it in development.
For kernel upgrade, keep a backup of the current running kernel in case you revert back.
For oracle upgrade, take a back of the oracle home directory in case you revert back.
Good Luck.

Hari Kishan.

Yes Ganesh 4.6D ext2 will requre that Oracle version and will not support 9.2,so you should go for Oracle upgrade and then kernel
But you can still test that in dev, just take the backup of the files(current kernel) in exe folder, put the new kernel and then see if you can bring up SAP.I think there should be no problem
If it fails, you can put the files that you backed up to the exe folder again and hence will be able to revert back to old kernel
